It has 667,000 associated members who work in auditing, financial reporting, sustainability, and economic growth. The AICPA promotes the global standing of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), CGMAs, and accounting and finance professionals via our membership and operations.
AICPA members get access to industry thought leaders, high-quality CPE, chances to collaborate with other organisations and volunteer options. The AICPA provides CPAs with criteria for success and assists them in becoming more effective.
The AICPA held a monopoly on accounting standards; in fact, the AICPA originated many of the concepts now universally recognised by CPAs. The AICPA delegated responsibility for formulating accounting principles to the newly formed Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) in 1970.
Other areas where the AICPA sets standards include auditing public and private enterprises, quality control for CPA firms, and business valuations and planning. Other CPAs primarily recognised AICPA norms in many areas, and many of their actions were normal.
After Enron acknowledged its inability to provide accurate financial accounts and WorldCom filed for bankruptcy, Congress passed the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in 2003. The CITP began operations in 2005.
AICPA members can get particular professional certifications that recognise their subject matter knowledge. Some programmes have helped students and teachers. The AICPA provides numerous recognised qualifications similar to those given to attorneys specialising in specific legal practice areas.
